Eduarda Melo

“In Lille, Rosina was sung by the soprano Eduarda Melo. Though we consider it a bad French habit to transpose the role for soprano – a dated, old-fashioned practice – the performance of the sparkling Melo makes perfect sense in the production. In the first act cavatina ‘Una voce poco fa’, transposed into F major and therefore without the lower register, her stratospheric coloratura dazzles the listener. She is utterly charming at every moment, and the singing lesson in the second act is wonderful. Her upper register is perfectly in tune with the off-the-wall, comic atmosphere, and she brings freshness and lightness to the production.”
